The most famous relatives of the Dutch artist family Ziesenis were the conductor and composer
Bartholomeus Ruloffs, the star actress
Johanna Cornelia Wattier and the cello virtuoso
Johann Georg Rauppe. Widely unknown relatives are the pianist
Johann Philipp Ferdinand Högg, the organist
Gerardus Hendricus Kalshoven, the actor family
Bingley and the painter family
Hoedt.
The pianist, organist and conductor
Bartholomeus Ruloffs and his brother, the violinist
Jan Pieter Ruloffs (1743-1794) were sons of the bassoonist
Reijnier Ruloffsz (±1705-1775) and brothers-in-law of the sculptor
Anthonie Ziesenis who married their younger sister Johanna.
In Amsterdam, the three musicians of the family played at the orchestras of the catholic Mozes en Aaronkerk and the Stadsschouwburg, who's conductor
Bartholomeus Ruloffs was since 1773.
In 1793
Bartholomeus Ruloffs married the young but intellectual opera star
Ernstina Louisa Anderegg (±1771-1832) from The Hague.
Johanna Cornelia Wattier, second wife of Bartholomeus Wilhelmus Henricus Ziesenis (1768-1820), was a daughter of the dancing instructor Jean Baptist Wattier (1727-1800) in Rotterdam. In the age of 15 she started her theatrical career in Rotterdam, from where she changed to the Stadsschouwburg of Amsterdam in the age of 18. There she performed until 1820 and was member of the board of directors in the years 1811-1819.
Her sister
Maria Anna Wattier (1760-1814) married the actor
Ward Bingley (1757-1818) and performed on stage with him in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague. Their daughter
Johanna Cornelia (1785-1869) became actress as well and married the actor
Jan Hendrik Hoedt (1779-1846) who came from a family of painters in Rotterdam and The Hague.
The career of
Johann Philipp Ferdinand Högg in Amsterdam started in 1783 when he was playing piano duet in concert. In later concerts he also performed with the
Rauppe brothers. In December 1800 he took
Agneta Sophia Ziesenis (1772-1822), daughter of
Anthonie Ziesenis for wife.
When his father-in-law died one year later,
J.P.F. Högg became trustee of the younger sister of his wife,
Johanna Clementina
(1784-1813), until she was married by
Johann Georg Rauppe (1762-1814) in 1802.
Till the end of his life J.P.F. Högg worked as piano and harpsichord teacher.
Johann Georg Rauppe and his brother Johann Balthasar Rauppe (1766-1843) were sons of the cellist Georg Rauppe (±1735->1802) somewhere in Hessen-Cassel.
The father thaugt his young sons the cello and travelled with them through Europe to give concerts. Finally the more talented
Johann Georg Rauppe became solo cellist and member of the royal academy in Amsterdam where he married
Johanna Clementina Ziesenis
(1784-1813), daughter of
Anthonie Ziesenis in 1802.
Johann Balthasar Rauppe decided for the violin and worked as a music teacher in Amsterdam and Kampen.
The brothers
Hendricus Gerardus Kalshoven (1805-1891) and
Gerardus Hendricus Kalshoven were sons of the master painter
Willem Kalshoven (1776-1822) in Amsterdam.
While the elder brother and his son
Eduard Charles Louis Kalshoven (1836-1911) worked as master or landscape painter,
Gerardus Hendricus Kalshoven became organist and conductor in Wageningen. In 1833 he married
Johanna Margaretha Elisabeth Ziesenis (1803-1847), a daughter of
Reinier Ziesenis (1776-1818). Of their children the eldest son became a respected preacher and the youngest music teacher.
Originating from the same roots is Willem Cornelis Kalshoven (1907-1966) who painted landscapes, city views and still lifes.
